THE ROLE
- We're hiring a Controller to build and scale a world-class accounting organization as we grow toward late-stage maturity. This is a senior, high-visibility role reporting directly to the CFO/Head of Finance
YOU WILL
- Build a scalable, audit-ready accounting function and lead the team on complex accounting and compliance issues
- Own and improve the monthly close process (target <6 business days)
- Ensure full GAAP compliance (ASC 606, 842, 718) with well-documented policies
- Lead modernization of systems and processes (ERP, billing, equity, AI tools) to maximize efficiency and scalability
- Strengthen internal controls and prepare for potential SOX readiness
- Support audits, fundraising, and financial diligence
- Manage all variable compensation plans, equity accounting, and cap table reconciliations
- Support international expansion with consolidation, currency management, and cross-border accounting
- Be directly in the succession plan for CFO, stepping up in leadership, vision, and ownership
MUST Haves
- Ability to make decisions on complex topics with minimal guidance and direct staff on resolution
- Detail-oriented nature and strong voice of compliance on expense/revenue recognition, audit, and tax
- Startup DNA: comfortable with ambiguity, speed, and wearing multiple hats
- Tech-forward mindset with a vision for leveraging tools and AI to modernize the function
- CPA with strong audit experience; Big 4 or top-tier public accounting experience a plus
- Proven experience scaling SaaS accounting functions toward ~$50M ARR
Success IN 12 18 Months
- Monthly close is reliable and under six business days
- Financial diligence cycles completed in 72 hours
- AI leveraged across finance for productivity gains and elimination of manual processes
- Accounting function fully audit-ready with clean financials, documented policies, and strong internal controls
- Equity ledger and cap table reconciliations are accurate and scalable
- Prepared to step into CFO role if needed
Compensation & Benefits
- Total Cash Compensation: $225,000 - $250,000 (depending on experience, qualifications, and location)
- Equity: Meaningful upside as the company scales
- Location: Fully remote, with Bay Area location premium
