The Senior Supervisor, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) is responsible for managing and continuously improving Environmental, Health, and Safety programs to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations. This role plays a critical part in promoting a strong safety culture within a manufacturing and metal fabrication environment while supporting operational excellence and risk reduction initiatives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Implement and maintain EHS programs, policies, and procedures in compliance with OSHA, EPA, and local regulatory requirements, with a focus on metal fabrication operations.
- Conduct regular safety inspections, risk assessments, and audits across fabrication, assembly, and material handling areas.
- Lead or support investigations of incidents and near misses; ensure corrective and preventive actions are implemented and tracked to completion.
- Oversee hazardous material handling and waste management programs, including welding gases, solvents, oils, and metal dust.
- Manage environmental compliance programs related to air emissions, stormwater management, and waste disposal.
- Deliver safety training, toolbox talks, and emergency response drills; track participation and maintain accurate training records.
- Maintain required EHS logs, reports, and regulatory documentation.
- Support safety committees and cross-functional initiatives to drive employee engagement and continuous safety improvement.
- Assist in the development and management of EHS KPIs and departmental budgets.
- Participate in engineering and operational projects to ensure safe changes to processes, equipment, and facilities in accordance with change management procedures.
- Lead or participate in internal and external audits to ensure environmental and safety compliance; report findings and follow up on corrective actions.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge through training, professional organizations, publications, and industry networking.
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety policies and promote accountability across teams.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Supervision and Leadership Responsibilities
- Motivate and lead a high-performing EHS team by attracting, developing, engaging, and retaining talent.
- Drive performance management processes by setting expectations, monitoring performance, providing feedback, and supporting employee development.
- Maintain transparent and consistent communication through team meetings, one-on-one discussions, and written communication.
- Foster a workplace culture aligned with organizational safety, integrity, and continuous improvement values.
Minimum Qualifications Education & Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Management, or a related field.
- ISO 14001 Lead Auditor Certification.
Experience
- 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
- 1-3 years of supervisory or leadership experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations related to metal fabrication, including welding fumes, noise exposure, hot work, and machine guarding.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
- Effective leadership and communication skills with the ability to engage employees at all organizational levels.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, production-driven environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related business applications.
Additional Requirements
- OSHA 30-Hour General Industry certification (required or must be obtained within 6 months).
- First Aid/CPR and HAZWOPER training preferred.
