Garnishment Specialist
Description
Encore Talent Solutions has partnered with a client to identify a Garnishment Specialist on a 7 month contract opening in the Cincinnati, OH area. This role will require full onsite work at the client location.
What We Are Targeting
Under minimal supervision, responds to legal orders served on the client, its affiliates, and subsidiaries involving a high degree of complexity. Provides quality, timely, and courteous customer service to all parties involved in legal orders, and represents the client to courts, attorneys, enforcement agencies, and the legal community at large. Ensures compliance with state and federal laws and timely processing of legal orders. Actively mitigates processing errors that could expose the client to financial loss or reputational risk.
Responsible and accountable for managing risk by openly exchanging ideas and opinions, escalating concerns, and strictly following established policies and procedures. Demonstrates accountability by consistently doing the right thing for customers and colleagues, ensuring actions and behaviors drive a positive customer experience. While operating within the client's risk appetite, achieves results by identifying, assessing, managing, monitoring, and reporting risks of all types.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Interpret garnishment language to determine scope, jurisdiction, applicability, and required timeframes
- Ensure proper service of garnishment orders to mitigate potential monetary loss to the client
- Perform comprehensive reviews of legal documents valued at $50K and above, including those exceeding $1MM, ensuring accurate handling and recording in the database
- Demonstrate sound judgment and apply logical and critical thinking to maintain productivity and efficiency
- Collaborate with Retail, Commercial, and Brokerage Operations to review depository account setups
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, maintain quality standards, and reduce turnaround times while adhering to state timelines
- Maintain a high level of accuracy to mitigate risk, liability, exposure, and potential monetary loss to the client
- Identify, research, and analyze process issues; develop solutions and resolve problems
- Research depository accounts to determine the presence of federally protected benefits and file responses accordingly
- Identify accounts where the client may hold a priority security interest or right of offset; coordinate with appropriate lines of business to determine applicable fund application
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all information to mitigate operational, reputational, monetary, and legal risk
- Initiate and release account holds and prepare client checks for mailing to courts, law offices, child support enforcement agencies, and the IRS
- Notify customers promptly of account actions by mailing copies of legal orders and notification letters, and faxing notifications to branches in a timely manner
- Ensure collection of applicable processing fees from garnishees and conduct periodic reviews of outstanding debts
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Four (4) years of related experience, preferably in Legal, Operations, or Retail Banking
- Paralegal Certificate or two (2) years of legal processing experience preferred
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Strong analytical, logical reasoning, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to independently research, recognize, and resolve issues
- Strong customer service orientation with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Proficiency in basic PC applications, including Excel, Word, and Access
- Ability to work under sensitive time constraints
- High level of self-motivation, initiative, and ownership
- Demonstrated follow-through and accountability
- Knowledge of ACE, Agile, Vector4, RAFT, Mobius, and Document Direct preferred
- Proficient data entry skills
