Content Taxonomy Program Manager
- Description
This is a W2 contract opportunity
Job Title: Content Taxonomy Program Manager
Duration: 6 months (contract to hire)
Location: Chanhassen, MN (MN candidates only, 3 days/week onsite)
Hours: 40/week
- Position Summary
This role is critical for ensuring operational governance and consistency across decentralized marketing and enterprise content teams. The Content Taxonomy Program Manager will focus on aligning existing content efforts with a global taxonomy framework, maintaining structured and reusable digital assets without engaging in content creation or platform redevelopment.
- Position Overview
The ideal candidate will be a strategic executor dedicated to maintaining and improving taxonomy and metadata models within current platforms. This role acts as the essential liaison between creative/content producers and technology owners to enforce standards for tagging, classification, and content lifecycle management—ensuring assets are properly updated, archived, or retired.
- Key Responsibilities:
- Provide operational governance for marketing and enterprise content taxonomy, driving consistency and alignment across decentralized teams.
- Map and audit existing content assets into a global schema to ensure alignment with enterprise-wide taxonomy and metadata standards.
- Enforce tagging and classification standards to maintain discoverable, measurable, and reusable content.
- Serve as the strategic liaison between creative/content producers and platform/technology owners to facilitate collaboration and alignment.
- Oversee the content lifecycle by ensuring digital assets are regularly updated, archived, or retired according to governance rules.
- Develop documentation and deliver training to stakeholders on taxonomy governance and best practices.
- Continuously improve existing taxonomy frameworks and metadata models incrementally within current systems.
- Conduct ongoing audits to identify inconsistencies, gaps, or duplication in content organization with actionable recommendations.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Technology, Legal, Editorial, Product, Engineering, and Marketing teams to translate business needs into structured data solutions.
- Define and track KPIs related to content management; provide insights that drive operational strategy.
- What This Role Is Not:
- This is not a platform rebuild or greenfield architecture project; it operates within existing platforms and frameworks.
- This role does not involve AI product development or ownership of semantic search engines or custom knowledge graph implementations.
- This is not a high-level product strategy position; the focus is on execution, alignment, and governance rather than setting enterprise-wide technology vision.
- The role does not include content creation or authoring marketing copy, creative assets, or editorial materials.
- This is not a pure data science or engineering role; while collaboration with these teams occurs, coding full-stack applications is not a core function.
- This is an ongoing operational role requiring consistent maintenance discipline rather than a one-off project assignment.
- Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, Information Management, Data Science or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in content management, product information management, taxonomy design or metadata strategy.
- Proven success in cross-functional program management and stakeholder alignment.
- Strong understanding of metadata structures, taxonomy principles, information architecture and content lifecycle workflows.
- Working knowledge of copyright and data privacy laws.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Library Science, Information Architecture or related field.
- Experience with structured content systems (e.g., DITA or headless CMS platforms).
- Familiarity with localization workflows or internationalization standards.
- Knowledge of SEO best practices and structured data principles.
- Understanding of semantic data concepts such as linked data or knowledge graph principles.
- Background working in large enterprise or matrixed organizations with decentralized content models.
