      Real Estate Tax Accountant

      The Tax Accountant is highly detail-oriented and proactive, overseeing a broad range of responsibilities related to tax filings, property and corporate financial accuracy, investor reporting, and internal audits. This individual is critical in ensuring compliance with federal and state requirements, supporting investor-related inquiries, and helping manage the structural components of real estate investments.

      Responsibilities

      Tax Management & Filings

      Own and manage the preparation and review of all property-level tax returns, K-1s for investors, and corporate tax filings.

      Oversee individual tax filings for company owners.

      Coordinate and oversee special depreciation allocations for investor deals.

      Track and file sales tax returns and assist with payroll tax compliance.

      Manage workers’ compensation tax filings and maintain compliance across multiple states.

      Entity & Compliance Oversight

      Prepare and file all annual state filings, including: Delaware Annual Reports, Public Information Filings, Franchise Tax Reports, etc.

      Manage and file Blue Sky Filings after each deal closes, ensuring compliance with state securities laws in all jurisdictions where investors reside.

      Manage entity fee tracking for all active and 1031 exchange investor entities.

      Coordinate new entity creation, bank account setups, and entity onboarding into AppFolio Investment Management.

      Collaborate with the team to draft and finalize operating agreements, PPMs, and other legal documents tied to entity structures.

      Maintain and update the organizational chart for each deal and investor entity.

      Stay up to date with evolving compliance requirements (e.g., BOI filings) and implement changes proactively.

      Perform internal audits for each property and review monthly financials for accuracy and completeness.

      Serve as a resource for the Investor Relations team by answering investor inquiries related to K-1s, entity structure, and tax matters.

      Assist the HR department in payroll administration and ensure payroll taxes are filed correctly and on time.

      Qualifications

      Bachelor's Degree in Accounting; MS in Tax a plus

      CPA required.

      2-5 years of progressive tax compliance experience within public accounting, preferably for real estate or investment management clients.
