Full-time role. og_image: https://www.foundrole.com/og/ydhcht.png breadcrumbs: - label: Home url: https://www.foundrole.com/ - label: Search url: https://www.foundrole.com/jobs --- | | | |---|---| | **Company** | GAP Solutions | | **Location** | Highlandtown, MD | | **Salary** | $30/hr - $36.5/hr | | **Type** | Full Time | | **Posted** | Oct 05, 2026 | ## Description **Position Objective:** The Laboratory Technician will provide support services to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the National Institute on Aging (NIA) within the National Institutes of Health. **Duties and Responsibilities:** - Perform routine analysis and tests on specimens in the laboratory. - Work with NIA Core Lab (Clinical Core Unit) to store and distribute biological samples including blood, urine, DNA, RNA, tissue and saliva in the Sample Library for future scientific research. 1 - Work in -20c temperatures for short periods of time and with automation on a daily basis. - Store new samples, update sample inventory, retrieve samples with proper authorization and maintain sample and database inventory; monitor overall sample inventory. 2 - Maintain records of freezer assignment 3 - Coordinate and maintain below zero-degree temperature freezers and other sample storage and handling equipment; maintain accurate daily and monthly records as applicable - Update and maintain written laboratory record of the work. - Ensure that supplies and consumables are ready and on hand as necessary for maximum efficiency in the laboratory. - Ensure that adequate clean inventory is available for immediate usage. - Perform routine analysis and tests on specimens in the laboratory. - Maintains inventory of laboratory supplies and initiates purchase orders. - Monitor and inventory routine laboratory supplies; ensure that supplies are stocked and organized. - Promptly report any issues encountered and their resolution to management. - Communicate with management and principal investigators on all Sample Library details regarding sample inquires and pull requests. - Submit a monthly report to management on the last day of each month; notate the work completed daily, weekly and monthly. - Monitor assigned repository projects including authorized sample pull requests, authorized sample destructions, sample consolidation, sample pull returns, sample information requests, sample inventory verification, and laboratory supply inventories. Inform management of status updates regarding projects. - Trains staff in performing routine laboratory tests and procedures. - Train new laboratory members in the correct use of equipment, application of techniques and laboratory protocols. - Troubleshoot issues with technical procedures; utilize trial and error methods customize protocols to the biological systems utilized in the laboratory. - Work with NIA Core Lab (Clinical Core Unit) to store and distribute biological samples including blood, urine, DNA, RNA, tissue and saliva in the Sample Library for future scientific research. 6 - Store new samples, update sample inventory, retrieve samples with proper authorization and maintain sample and database inventory; monitor overall sample inventory. 4 - Maintain records of freezer assignment. 5 - Coordinate and maintain below zero-degree temperature freezers and other sample storageand handling equipment; maintain accurate daily and monthly records as applicable. - Promptly report any issues encountered and their resolution to management. - Submit a monthly report to management on the last day of each month; notate the work completed daily, weekly and monthly. - Communicate with management and principal investigators on all Sample Library details regarding sample inquires and pull requests. - Monitor assigned repository projects including authorized sample pull requests, authorized sample destructions, sample consolidation, sample pull returns, sample information requests, sample inventory verification, and laboratory supply inventories. - Inform management of status updates regarding projects. - Compose and edit Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for the Sample Library at the discretion of management and in accordance with NIH standards and all applicable federal, state, local, and international regulations and guidelines. Addendum to Position Description/Statement of Work For Emergency Management Responsibilities The following responsibilities may be assigned to a contract employee of this position. - Verification of whether or not a contract employee will be assigned these duties is to be obtained from the first-level of management of the position. In an emergency situation, contract employee is available to the best of his/her abilities to perform his/her assigned duties in order to ensure the continuity of NIA’s critical core functions as appropriate. Emergencies can range from inclement weather or a building fire/flood to a natural disaster or terrorist attack. Because emergencies can happen at any time, the contract employee will provide all updated personal contact information (cell and hometelephone numbers, home email address, personal blackberry pin number if applicable,etc.) to Kelly Government Solutions (KGS) to ensure rapid response in the event of an emergency outside of regular business hours. As an emergency staff member, the contract employee will perform his/her assigned duties as requested to help protect NIA’s critical resources (e.g., staff, patients, animals, research, property), and help to ensure the continuation of NIA Critical Core Functions. - The core functions include: (1) maintenance of employee safety; (2) care for clinical patients, including monitoring and oversight of Advanced Studies in Translational Research on Aging (ASTRA) study participants; (3) care and feeding of animals; (4) maintenance of physical security; (5) maintenance of mission critical laboratory and clinical experiments and scientific equipment; (6) safeguarding perishable laboratory samples and biological stock; (7) preservation and protection of NIA information systems and data; (9) communication with NIA researchers and grantees; NIH and various Institutes and Centers; other government agencies; private sector partnering organizations; and key stakeholders; and (10) serving as a member of the NIA Crisis Response Team (CRT). The core functions the contract employee will be expected no support are those that relate to his/her assigned duties as outlined in the position description/statement of work. - Clean Equipment, Run Validation, Inspect Equipment, Meet with lab members to present updates. **Basic Qualifications:** - Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Life Sciences, or a related discipline. - Experience working in a Biorepository and familiar with Biorepository practices. - Experience with MS Office Suite **Preferred Qualifications:** - Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with non-technical and technical staff - Detail-oriented and possess strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects *This job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required by this position.
