## Description

**Commercial HVAC Service Technician**

**Commercial HVAC Service Division**

**Reports To:** Service Manager

**Location:** Service calls across the Greater Phoenix Area. Corporate office: 303 W Elliot Rd Ste. 101, Tempe, AZ 85284

**Compensation:** $38 - $56 per hour including performance-based incentive bonuses; final rate is set based on demonstrated commercial experience and equipment proficiency, verified in a technical interview

**POSITION SUMMARY**

Tempe Mechanical has been one of Arizona's premier commercial HVAC and plumbing contractors for over 35 years, serving commercial, healthcare, municipal, and institutional clients across the Greater Phoenix Valley. This is a **commercial-only position**; Tempe Mechanical does not perform residential work, and the role requires verifiable commercial HVAC service experience on VRF systems, water source heat pumps, chillers, boilers, and commercial split systems in occupied buildings. The Commercial HVAC Service Technician serves as a lead diagnostic technician on complex commercial equipment, working problems to root cause rather than performing straightforward parts replacement. The service department runs on ServiceTrade and holds technicians to a real documentation standard, backed by a Service Manager who owns dispatch, scope clarity, and job readiness.

**DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**

**Diagnostics & Repair**

- Diagnose, repair, and maintain commercial HVAC systems including **VRF/VRV systems, water source heat pumps, commercial split systems, RTUs, chillers, boilers, and hydronic systems**.
- Make repair-vs-replace recommendations backed by data and communicate them clearly to facility engineers, property managers, and general contractors.
- Identify deficiencies and pull-through opportunities on every call and document them same-day in ServiceTrade with photos and billable-quality notes.
- Interpret wiring diagrams, controls sequences, and mechanical drawings.

**Team & Operations**

- Mentor junior technicians on VRF and advanced diagnostics.
- Run after-hours and emergency calls on rotation.
- Maintain real-time time, material, and documentation entries in ServiceTrade via mobile app.

**QUALIFICATIONS**

- **5+ years of commercial HVAC service experience** (commercial service, not new construction install and not residential).
- **Proficiency diagnosing and servicing VRF systems** (Daikin, Mitsubishi, LG, or equivalent); factory certification strongly preferred.
- **Hands-on experience with water source heat pump systems** and associated loop equipment.
- Proven troubleshooting ability on commercial split systems, RTUs, and building HVAC equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret commercial wiring diagrams, controls drawings, and blueprints.
- **EPA Universal Certification.**
- Valid driver's license with insurable driving record.
- Professional communication skills with commercial clients and facility staff.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Preferred: chiller and boiler service experience, hydronic system and pump service experience, building automation/controls familiarity, experience training or leading other technicians, and ServiceTrade or comparable field service software experience.
