Powered by [UC Irvine](https://uci.edu), UCI Health serves 5.6 million people across Orange County, western Riverside County and southeast Los Angeles County through excellence in patient care, research and medical education. **Your Role on the Team** **Position Summary:** The Facility Coding Supervisor provides administrative leadership and technical oversight for inpatient and outpatient facility coding operations. This position is responsible for supervising coding personnel, coordinating workforce resources, monitoring coding performance and quality metrics, and optimizing the use of Computer-Assisted Coding (CAC) technology across the network. The supervisor serves as a subject matter expert in hospital facility coding while partnering with leadership to improve coding quality, operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and coding technology performance. The Facility Coding Supervisor analyzes coding production, quality, precision and recall reporting, audit findings, and workforce metrics to identify trends, recommend process improvements, and enhance the effectiveness and reliability of coding workflows. This position also provides administrative oversight of personnel activities while ensuring compliance with organizational policies, collective bargaining requirements where applicable. **What It Takes to be Successful** **Required Qualifications:** - Strong understanding of Computer-Assisted Coding (CAC) functionality, coding quality principles, productivity measurement, and coding workflow processes. - Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS). - Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and other standard reporting applications. - Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job - Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible acute care hospital facility coding experience, including both inpatient and outpatient coding. - High school diploma or equivalent - Expert knowledge of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, HCPCS Level II, Official Coding Guidelines, Medicare reimbursement methodologies, and hospital facility coding compliance - Exercises sound judgment and accountability in making timely operational and administrative decisions while recognizing when leadership consultation is appropriate. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English - Excellent leadership, organizational, communication, conflict resolution, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with the ability to supervise coding staff, manage multiple priorities, and foster a collaborative work environment. - Demonstrated experience researching and independently resolving operational, coding, and administrative issues using organizational resources, policies, and regulatory guidance. - Demonstrated analytical skills with the ability to identify trends and develop actionable recommendations - Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload - Ability to independently research issues, evaluate available resources, and develop appropriate solutions - Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System, School of Medicine, UCI Research Administration and other UC System campuses - Ability to communicate professionally, respectfully, diplomatically, and tactfully with employees, physicians, leadership, and interdisciplinary teams, including providing constructive feedback and navigating difficult conversations. **Preferred Qualifications:** - Previous supervisory, lead, coordinator, or network project management experience. - Knowledge of University and Medical Center organizations, policies, procedures and forms - Experience working in a unionized healthcare environment, including application of collective bargaining agreements and collaboration with Human Resources on employee relations matters - Experience with Epic electronic health record and coding encoder software. - Experience utilizing Computer-Assisted Coding (CAC) systems, coding analytics, precision and recall reporting, productivity reporting, and quality measurement tools. - Experience developing or implementing coding quality improvement initiatives or workflow optimization projects. - Experience collaborating with Revenue Integrity, Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI), Compliance, Information Technology, Patient Financial Services, and Human Resources. - Associate’s degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related healthcare field. - Additional coding or leadership certifications such as CCS-P, CPC, CDIP, CCDS, Lean Six Sigma, or project management certification **Total Rewards** We offer a wealth of benefits to make working at UCI even more rewarding.
