Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required. ## Responsibilities for this Position General Dynamics Mission Systems is seeking an entry-level Software Engineer to support the Tactical Control System (TCS) Program. In this role, you will contribute to the development, integration, testing, and maintenance of software supporting mission-critical capabilities. You will work alongside experienced engineers to solve technical problems, build reliable software, and grow your skills in a collaborative team environment. ## Key Responsibilities - Develop and maintain software using **C++ and Java** in a **Linux** environment. - Participate in software design, implementation, code reviews, and testing. - Troubleshoot software issues and support integration and defect resolution. - Develop unit tests and maintain technical documentation. - Collaborate with software, systems, and test engineers to implement and verify requirements. - Learn and apply team coding standards, development tools, and software engineering practices. ## Required Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent relevant experience. - Foundational programming experience with **C++ and Java**, demonstrated through coursework, personal projects, internships, or professional experience. - Familiarity with **Linux**, including command-line tools and basic development workflows. - Understanding of object-oriented programming, data structures, and software debugging. - Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn. - Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively. ## Preferred Qualifications Experience or familiarity with one or more of the following: - **JavaScript** for web application development. - **Python or Bash** for scripting and automation. - **Docker** for containerized development and deployment. - **Kubernetes** for container orchestration. - **Spring Boot** for Java-based application and service development. - Git or other version-control tools. - Automated testing and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) practices. ## Experience Level Entry level. Relevant academic projects, internships, and personal software projects are encouraged. Candidates are not expected to have experience with every preferred technology. **Workplace Options:**This position is on site, with options for hybrid work after the first three months of onboarding. While on-site, you will be a part of the GDMS Progreny (9100 Ashton Avenue) facility in Manassas, VA. ## Salary Note This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors (geographic location, etc.). Actual pay may vary.
