**SUMMARY:** The Direct Support Professional provides self-care training and assistance in daily living to individuals with developmental disabilities residing in a group respite setting.

**EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:** High school diploma or GED; Valid NYS driver's license and 12 months driving history. Six months to one-year related experience and or training preferred.

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

- Provides individualized care as outlined in the individuals Life Plan, or ISP.
- Assists Individuals in the primary activities of daily living (toileting, feeding, cooking, cleaning) as outlined in individual's ISP to promote independence.
- Maintains files and produces service notes and documentation on assigned caseload.
- Documents and submits reports to the program as outlined in the assigned department.
- Maximized consumer's social skills in order to enable him/her to live in their community by providing activities in a community setting.

**About the ARC’S Respite Program**: The Respite Center offers a six-bed home-like atmosphere with trained staff to ensure the best quality of care for individuals with disabilities. Individual stays run Thursday-Sunday where they will receive meals, activities, and trips within the community. Direct Support Professionals are the trained staff who provide 24-hour supervision, care, and guidance to residents. They assist with personal care needs, cleaning, cooking, medications, and activities.
