## Description

**Lead Financial Strategy. Drive Organizational Impact. Help Shape Akin's Future.**

Are you a strategic, forward-thinking finance leader who thrives on turning complex financial data into meaningful insights? Do you enjoy building strong teams, improving financial systems, and partnering with organizational leaders to drive financial sustainability?

**Akin is seeking an experienced Senior Director or Associate Vice President (AVP) of Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)** to help lead our financial strategy, strengthen organizational performance, and support the long-term sustainability of our mission-driven organization.

This is an exciting opportunity for a collaborative, solutions-oriented finance leader who brings deep financial expertise, strong technical capabilities, and a passion for making a meaningful difference in the communities we serve.

**The position may be filled at the Senior Director or AVP level, depending on the selected candidate's depth of experience, leadership background, and qualifications.**

We strongly prefer candidates with financial leadership experience in the nonprofit sector, particularly those familiar with complex funding structures, government grants, contracts, and restricted funding.

**IMPORTANT: Demonstrated, hands-on experience with Workday Adaptive Planning (Adaptive) is REQUIRED for this position, regardless of level.** Candidates must have practical experience using Adaptive for budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and analysis.

## About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Senior Director or AVP of Financial Planning & Analysis will serve as a key strategic financial partner, helping shape organizational priorities, strengthen financial operations, and support informed decision-making across Akin.

In this highly visible leadership role, you will oversee organizational budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and performance reporting while leading and developing a high-performing Finance team.

You'll also play a critical role in maximizing our use of Workday Adaptive Planning, improving financial systems and processes, and ensuring that leaders across the organization have the financial insights and tools they need to make effective decisions.

We're looking for someone who can balance big-picture strategy with hands-on execution—an experienced leader who is equally comfortable developing financial models, presenting recommendations to executives, mentoring team members, and identifying opportunities to improve how we work.

The scope and level of strategic leadership responsibilities will be aligned with the selected candidate's experience and whether the position is filled at the Senior Director or AVP level.

## What You'll Do

### Drive Financial Strategy & Organizational Sustainability

- Partner closely with the CFO and executive leadership to develop and execute financial strategies that support Akin's mission and long-term sustainability.

- Provide strategic financial insights, modeling, and recommendations to guide organizational planning and resource allocation.

- Identify financial risks, emerging trends, and opportunities to strengthen financial performance.

- Translate complex financial information into clear, actionable recommendations for executive leadership and the Board.

- Support long-term financial planning and organizational decision-making.

### Lead Financial Planning, Budgeting & Forecasting

- Oversee the organization's annual budgeting process, financial forecasting, and long-range financial planning.

- Lead operational and capital budget management, financial analysis, and performance monitoring.

- Develop meaningful financial reports, dashboards, and key performance indicators that support organizational decision-making.

- Partner with department and program leaders to strengthen financial accountability, budget ownership, and forecasting accuracy.

- Support financial planning across multiple programs, departments, and funding sources.

### Maximize Workday Adaptive Planning & Financial Technology

- Serve as a key organizational leader in the effective use and optimization of **Workday Adaptive Planning (Adaptive)**.

- Leverage Adaptive to lead budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, modeling, and analysis.

- Improve financial planning workflows, reporting capabilities, data accuracy, and system efficiency.

- Identify opportunities to automate manual processes and strengthen financial reporting tools.

- Partner with IT, Operations, and other departments to improve financial systems integration and data accessibility.

- Lead financial technology improvements that strengthen efficiency, transparency, and data-informed decision-making.

### Strengthen Financial Operations & Stewardship

- Provide leadership and oversight for financial reporting, grants and contracts, regulatory compliance, and financial operations.

- Ensure alignment with applicable accounting standards, nonprofit financial requirements, and internal controls.

- Improve financial policies, procedures, and reporting practices to support organizational effectiveness.

- Promote responsible financial stewardship, accountability, and operational excellence.

### Build, Lead & Develop a Strong Finance Team

- Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing Finance team.

- Establish clear expectations, priorities, and performance goals.

- Foster a positive, collaborative, and solutions-oriented team culture.

- Support professional development, accountability, and continuous improvement.

- Build strong relationships across departments and serve as a trusted financial advisor to organizational leaders.

## What We're Looking For

We're seeking an accomplished finance leader with strong analytical capabilities, exceptional communication skills, and demonstrated success leading financial planning and analysis in a complex organization.

Candidates will be considered for either the Senior Director or AVP level based on their overall experience, leadership capabilities, and demonstrated ability to support Akin's financial strategy and operations.

### Minimum Qualifications — Required

- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.

- At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in finance, accounting, or financial planning and analysis, including at least 5 years of people leadership.

- **Demonstrated hands-on experience with Workday Adaptive Planning (Adaptive) is required.** Must have experience using Adaptive for budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and analysis, and leveraging the system to support strategic financial planning and organizational decision-making.

- Demonstrated experience leading organizational budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and reporting processes.

- Experience partnering with senior and executive leadership on financial strategy, organizational planning, and data-informed decision-making.

- Experience developing, implementing, or improving financial processes, internal controls, financial systems, and reporting practices.

- Demonstrated experience supervising, coaching, and developing teams, including direct performance management responsibilities.

- Strong knowledge of financial management, accounting principles, financial reporting, and long-term financial planning.

### Strongly Preferred Qualifications

**Nonprofit financial leadership experience is a significant preference for this position.** We are especially interested in candidates who bring:

- Senior-level finance or FP&A leadership experience within a nonprofit organization.

- Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting, financial reporting, and funding structures.

- Experience managing complex budgets involving restricted and unrestricted funding, government grants, contracts, and multiple revenue streams.

- Financial leadership experience in human services, healthcare, behavioral health, or similarly complex, mission-driven organizations.

- Experience guiding organizations through growth, change, or systems transformation.

- Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.

- CPA, CMA, or another relevant professional certification.

We recognize that strong financial leaders bring a variety of backgrounds and experiences. Akin is open to hiring at either level based on the selected candidate's qualifications and demonstrated leadership capabilities.

**Senior Director of Financial Planning & Analysis**

Candidates considered at the Senior Director level will demonstrate strong technical FP&A expertise, hands-on experience with Adaptive, and a successful track record of leading budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and teams. They will be comfortable partnering with senior leadership, improving financial processes, and translating complex financial information into actionable insights.

**Associate Vice President of Financial Planning & Analysis**

Candidates considered at the AVP level will bring the qualifications above, along with demonstrated executive-level financial leadership, broader organizational financial strategy experience, and a proven ability to influence financial decision-making across a complex organization. Experience advising executive leadership and Boards, overseeing enterprise-wide financial initiatives, and leading significant organizational or financial systems improvements will be particularly valuable.

**Both levels require demonstrated Workday Adaptive Planning experience. Nonprofit financial leadership experience is strongly preferred for both levels.**

- **A strategic mindset:** You see beyond the numbers and understand how financial decisions affect organizational priorities, operations, and long-term sustainability.

- **A proactive, can-do attitude:** You take initiative, embrace challenges, and approach problems with curiosity, flexibility, and a solutions-oriented mindset.

- **Strong technical expertise:** You're confident working in Adaptive and using financial technology to improve processes, reporting, and decision-making.
