Project Details
RTI International is seeking self-motivated and outgoing individuals to work on the Safer Drinking Spaces Study. RTI, the University of Florida (UF), and Georgia State University, in collaboration with Safe Bars, Inc., are working to evaluate the Safe Bars active bystander training for bar staff. This study is funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The purpose of the surveys is to understand patron and staff experiences, including sexual violence and other types of victimization, at an establishment where alcohol is served, such as a bar, brewery, nightclub, or music venue.
There will be 30 venues total in up to two cities. Recruitment of venues will begin in the Spring of 2026 and continue through the end of 2027. Recruited venues have four main waves of data collection over 12 months. Hours may ebb and flow between the four waves of data collection. The final cohort of venues will end data collection at the end of 2028.

Field Interviewers Are Responsible For
- Traveling frequently to selected locations
- Making in-person contact with selected respondents to discuss the study, answer questions, and obtain participation
- Collecting and maintaining confidential information and administering standardized questionnaires
- Maintaining current knowledge of relevant developments in the field
- Independently managing administrative duties, including participating in conference calls and completing online trainings
- Transmitting data as scheduled
- Attending virtually scheduled meetings with other members of the project team
- Assuming full and legal responsibility for use and care of project issued equipment
- Safeguarding any participant incentives, issued equipment, or project materials against damage, loss, or theft
- Assuming responsibility for and carefully tracking all participant incentives
- Editing completed work, and reporting the results of all activities
- Submitting timely and accurate Time & Expense reports
- This position involves standing, walking and climbing stairs, and transporting equipment and materials such as laptop computers and notebooks weighing 20 pounds or more
- Reaching out to local venues by phone, by email, or in person; identifying the decision maker within the venue; and clearly explaining the purposes of the study to gain their agreement to participate
- Through venue recruitment efforts, recruiting up to 20 local venues to participate in the study
- Onboarding venue staff to the study, maintaining good study relationships with venue managers, owners, and staff throughout duration of study
- Encouraging staff to sign up for the study through active screener participation on the spot using project tablet or using passive staff recruitment materials
- Launching each wave of data collection by posting passive recruitment materials throughout the venue; closing each wave by collecting all passive recruitment materials when participation targets have been met
- Conducting active intercept recruitment of patrons at venues using a tablet for 5-minute screeners, paying $10 cash incentives upon completion
- Maintaining study supplies (flyers, table tents, etc.) at each venue, and conducting periodic venue assessments (a short survey liaisons complete about each venue)
Qualifications: Minimum Required Qualifications
- Must possess High School Diploma or GED
- Possess effective communication skills through speech and listening
- Fluency in English through reading, writing, and speaking
- Available for entire training and data collection period
- Able to successfully complete training
- Must have a valid US driver's license and reliable personal automobile available for business use
- Comfortable using RTI issued tablet, laptop and other associated equipment
- Access to password-protected Wi-Fi connection for data transmissions and administrative responsibilities
- Effective decision-making and task management skills
- Able to accurately account for incentive money paid out to respondents and request replenishments
- Able to obtain, safeguard, and submit all expense receipts for client records and reimbursement
- Able to keep project information confidential
- Willingness to work in various types of weather conditions and after dark
- Due to nature of drinking establishment hours of operation, afternoons, evenings, and weekends will be required for most tasks
- Be comfortable in bar, brewery, or music venue settings, including busy and loud establishments
- Must have flexible availability to work on specified dates/times determined by the venue recruitment effort

- Positive, self-motivated, curious, and enjoy interacting with people from a variety of backgrounds
- Effective time, schedule, and workload management skills to meet set deadlines
- Computer skills, namely email and internet proficiency
- Associates degree preferred
- Ability to adapt to various social environments and areas
- Ability to complete, organize, safely store, and ship paperwork weekly, and in a timely fashion
- Ability to document all activity and interactions with patrons or venue managers as required
- Ability to o work with another venue liaison and project staff as an effective and cohesive team
- Ability to adhere to project requirements
- Be outgoing and comfortable approaching and speaking with strangers
- Ability to explain the importance of this study
- Ability to accurately account for incentive money paid out to respondents and request replenishments
- Ability to obtain, safeguard and submit all expense receipts for client records and reimbursement
Work Schedule
- The data collection period is expected to be March 2026 through December 2028.
- On average, you will be needed approximately 15 hours per week when work is available.
- On average, you should be available to work in the field 4 days each week.
- The majority of this work is anticipated to be during evenings and weekends.
- Each of your trips to the field are expected to be at least 2 hours long

Research Liaison Training Requirements
- Must attend all trainings and successfully complete required courses
- Trainings will be scheduled upon hire, will be broken up by main tasks (venue recruitment, staff surveys, patron surveys, and venue assessments), taking place via Zoom. Training will be scheduled as soon as possible upon hire
